Bordeaux or Provence: which is better for a destination wedding?
Two of the most sought-after regions, and two experiences with little in common. Bordeaux means vineyards and an international airport; Provence means landscapes, stone and Mediterranean light.
Bordeaux and the South-West
Vineyards, wine châteaux, historic estates, and an airport with direct flights from London, Dublin, Amsterdam and Geneva. The neighbouring Dordogne and Charente offer large estates sleeping many guests, often at lower prices.
Provence
Stone mas, olive trees, vines and light. The atmosphere is instantly recognisable and international demand is strong — which the prices reflect, especially on summer Saturdays.
How to decide
Budget, season, how far your guests must travel, available accommodation, and the kind of wedding you want to create. In July and August, inland Provençal heat weighs on guest comfort as much as price weighs on the budget.
