About the venue
A 16th-century château listed as a Historic Monument, Château de Mornay hosts weddings in the heart of the Vals de Saintonge, between Niort, Saintes and Cognac. Guests enter through the imperial tower and its rib-vaulted porch, then cross the former drawbridge into the main courtyard.
The estate is fully private from Friday 10am to Sunday 6pm. The Dionysos hall (120 m²), overlooking the moat, opens onto two vaulted rooms of 50 m² each for a children's dinner, dance floor, bar or lounge. A 95 m² reception tent and an outdoor bar complete the park in case of changeable weather.
In the park, a 400-year-old plane tree, listed as a Remarkable Tree of France, often hosts the drinks reception and the next-day brunch, while a pyramid oak of the same age hosts ceremonies. Some dinners even take place in the courtyard between the park and the château.
The estate's 2-star hotel sleeps up to 65 guests in 27 rooms with private bathrooms, 2 of them accessible. The royal apartment is offered to the couple for the wedding night.
Three weekend packages in high season (1 April to 30 September):
• Richelieu, €5,500: the three reception rooms, professional kitchen and park, furniture included; accommodation optional.
• Impériale, €8,150: the Richelieu package plus all 27 rooms for one night; €10,150 with a second night.
• Small wedding, €4,900 (under 50 guests): the Dionysos hall or the two vaulted rooms.
Lower rates midweek, Tuesday to Thursday, and in low season.
No time limit in the reception rooms, no imposed suppliers, no corkage fee. 10 minutes from the A10 motorway, near Surgères TGV station.
